Mid-Century Inspired Two-Bathroom Remodel - Kaminskiy

A San Diego Two-Bathroom Remodel with Mid-Century Modern Style

This project refreshed two older bathrooms for a young family who wanted more style, comfort, and everyday function. The homeowners loved mid-century modern design, so the goal was to create two bathrooms that felt connected through warm wood tones, brass accents, white countertops, and clean-lined details while still giving each space its own personality.

The hall bathroom was designed as a bright, playful family bath with a soaking tub and blue tile. The primary bathroom took on a more refined feel with a walk-in shower, rich green tile, and a warm walnut-toned vanity.

Project Overview

Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling remodeled both bathrooms to better fit the family’s style and daily routine. The design team selected cabinetry, countertops, tile, fixtures, lighting, paint, and flooring that felt fresh and modern while still complementing the home’s character.

“The clients love mid-century modern style. We designed the bathrooms to be unique to one another yet look cohesive in a modest-sized home. One bath was designed for a boy, and one more sophisticated for the parents.”

Before and After Bathroom Remodel

See how two outdated bathrooms were transformed into fresh, functional spaces with mid-century modern style, updated finishes, and distinct designs for the hall and primary bathrooms.

A Cohesive Design with Two Distinct Personalities

One of the strongest parts of this remodel is the way the two bathrooms relate to each other without looking identical. Both spaces use warm wood, brass details, white surfaces, and geometric tile to create a shared mid-century influence. At the same time, the hall bathroom feels brighter and more playful, while the primary bathroom feels deeper, calmer, and more sophisticated.

This balance helped the homeowners get two bathrooms that work for different needs while still feeling like they belong in the same home.

Hall Bathroom: Bright, Fresh, and Family-Friendly

The hall bathroom was designed around a new Kohler soaking tub, making it practical for a young family while still giving the room a custom look. Blue Bedrosians shower wall tile adds bold color and movement, while the recessed niche brings in useful storage and a crisp design detail. A white hex tile floor keeps the space feeling clean and timeless.

The vanity adds a mid-century touch with wood trim, white drawer fronts, and brass hardware. Delta plumbing fixtures, including the faucet, shower head, tub spout, and shower valve trim, bring warmth to the tub and vanity areas. A Kichler wall sconce and Tyro mirror complete the room with simple, polished details.

The result is a hall bath that feels playful, functional, and full of personality without feeling too busy.

Primary Bathroom: Sophisticated and Relaxing

The primary bathroom was designed with a more elevated mood. Instead of a tub, this space features a walk-in shower with a Kohler shower door and rich green Bedrosians Chroma porcelain tile on the shower walls and niche. The vertical tile layout adds height and texture to the shower, while the glass enclosure keeps the room feeling open.

Bedrosians Le Cafe tile was used for the floor and shower pan, adding contrast while tying the space back to the hall bathroom’s geometric feel. A walnut-toned vanity, white countertop, brass faucet, oval mirror, and warm wall sconces balance the deep green tile and help the room feel refined, without feeling dark.

Kohler fixtures and accessories, including the toilet, sink faucet, shower package, towel ring, towel bar, and toilet lever, give the space a finished, coordinated look. Together, these selections create a primary bath that feels calm, polished, and personal.

Designed for a Modest-Sized Older Home

Because both bathrooms were modest in size, every design choice needed to be intentional. The team focused on storage, finish scale, fixture placement, and visual balance to make each room feel updated without overwhelming the layout.

Rather than making the bathrooms match exactly, the design used a shared material language: brass accents, warm wood, white countertops, and geometric tile. This allowed each bathroom to have its own identity while still feeling cohesive within the home.

Final Result

What started as two outdated bathrooms is now a pair of refreshed spaces designed around the needs of a young family and the style they love. The hall bathroom is bright, practical, and playful. The primary bathroom is warmer, moodier, and more refined.

Together, the two bathrooms show how thoughtful design can make smaller spaces feel stylish, functional, and connected without making them feel identical.
