The exact process that each project goes through from beginning to end is always different. When you are dealing with a custom kitchen remodel, no two are exactly alike. However, a general step-by-step guide for your San Diego kitchen remodel may look something like this:
1. In Home Design Consultation
In our design consultation, we discuss your project and get a good understanding of what you are looking for in your kitchen remodel. We take photos, measurements and make design suggestions. Then we schedule a time for you to visit our Design Center to review your project and bid details.
2. Design and Bid Presentation
We begin work on designing your project right away, using our state-of-the-art design software. When it’s ready, we present the newly designed kitchen space and review all the design elements that are incorporated. At this point we can give you an accurate range of the cost of the project.
3. Pre-Remodel Permits and Plans
When the contract is signed, we can finalize the design and details and begin securing permits by submitting plans and paper work to the city and county. At the same time we will schedule a shopping trip with our senior designer to pick out materials, fixtures and paint for your new kitchen.
4. Demolition – Removal of Existing Kitchen
The demolition step consists of removing old appliances, cabinets, flooring, countertops and anything else that needs to go. From here, our pros can assess the condition of the floor, ceiling, walls, and decide if corrections need to be made
5. Plumbing, Electrical, Floors and Drywall
If your kitchen requires new light fixtures, plumbing, HVAC, or cable or speaker wires, it would be installed at this point. Once that is finished we can install flooring, insulation, and drywall.
6. Installation of Cabinets and Countertops
Installation of your countertops and cabinets is next, meaning your new kitchen is really starting to take shape. This is an extremely important and meticulous step as everything needs to be laser-measured and leveled to insure it looks perfect.
7. Interior Finishing and Painting
We install backsplashes, trim, plumbing fixtures, finish floors (if required), and -finally – paint.
8. Fixtures, Appliances and Cleanup
In this final phase we touch-up finishes, install new appliances, lighting fixtures, and clean up all our materials and tools.
9. Enjoy you New Kitchen!
At this point, your kitchen remodel is finished and you can begin enjoying it. Plan a dinner party, cook for the family, or order in to keep it spotless, the possibilities are endless.
Since your kitchen is one of busiest and most important rooms in your home, a worthy kitchen design is a must. It’s a gathering place, an entertainment room, and a place of inspiration for ambitious home cooked meals. That is exactly why your kitchen space should always be comfortable, welcoming and efficiently designed, all while reflecting the individual homeowner’s unique personality. Kitchen products are continually reengineered, updated, and redesigned to keep up with the times and the needs of the consumers (for instance, the needs of multigenerational or age in place remodels are markedly different). Kaminskiy’s team has the knowledge of the latest products on the market and will help you make the right selections to fit your lifestyle.
Over the last couple of decades, the evolution of the kitchen has accelerated, which makes working with San Diego’s best kitchen remodelers even more important.
Layout Changes: Layout changes are an important aspect of remodeling. Completely remodeling your kitchen layout often involves replacing flooring, countertops, appliances, lighting fixtures, wall placement, and more. The perk of remodeling is that you choose where you want your oven, your sink, and your refrigerator. We take into account how you wish your kitchen to be designed and transfer those dreams into plans so our team to make it happen for you. Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling is the best choice to suit all your kitchen renovation needs.
The triangle is a layout that architects and designers use when working on residential kitchen projects. The idea is to create an efficient space between the key appliances such as the oven, sink, and refrigerator. There are specific principles that designers follow such as measurements between the workstations, amount of traffic flow between them, and how much counter space should be on either side of each appliance. Have questions about the efficiency of your kitchen? We will be happy to answer any of them! As we design the room of your dreams, we will thoroughly explain our process and how that affects the functionality.
Also known as a corridor kitchen is a long, narrow room with cabinets and appliances on both sides of a walkway. It’s the polar opposite of the open concept where the appliances, counters, and cabinets are more openly dispersed. A galley is often much smaller and less expensive.
This small layout takes up less space inside the house and because everything is so close together, it is considered easier to work around as you cook. A few cons of the galley kitchen are there is much less countertop space, it is extremely difficult to fit more than one person in, and the resale value is potentially lower than the other layouts available. A galley kitchen sticks to the basics. No islands, bars, or anything else that takes up space.
This layout has become increasingly popular since the 1970s and is considered by many to be a preferred lifestyle rather than a fad. The open plan concept includes the kitchen, living room and dining room all in the same space. There are no, or very few, walls dividing each space.
This all-inclusive layout allows the person (or people) cooking to interact with everybody, even those watching television or eating their meal at the table. With that said, the cons are that the cooking area can be noisy, so it disrupts the people in the living room, the cooking smells can reach the sofa, and it reduces wall space. If your layout is not already an open concept, it is costly. Without any supporting structures, the walls that are in the area need to be far stronger than that of a standard closed room.
There are a variety of pros and cons to an open space kitchen, though some do find that the positives outweigh the negatives. Whichever you prefer, Kaminskiy Design and Remodeling will guide you through each step to make sure each choice you make is the right one.
For many home cooks, appliances are one of the most important parts of kitchen. However, there exists a seemingly endless variety of options. So, what should you be looking for in kitchen appliances?
1. Energy Efficiency
Safe money and reduce your footprint by looking for appliances with the Energy Star rating. (energystar.gov)
2. Burner Heat Output
Professional or commercial grade appliances typically have a better range of high and low heat allowing you to get temperatures up fast or maintain a nice even simmer.
Depending upon your kitchen design and style choices the look of your appliances will dif
4. Ease of Use
Are the buttons, knobs, handles easily identifiable and intuitively located? Or are you constantly searching for them? If it takes an engineering degree to operated your stove, you may want to look for a different option.
5. Safety Features (this may be number one if you have young children)
6. Easy Cleanup
Are the appliances easy to clean, do they show fingerprints easily? These may not seem like major questions, but when you are living with and using them every day, an appliance that is easy to clean can make your life a little easier.
A full kitchen remodel is a big undertaking and should be treated as such. Here is a list of common mistakes people make.
1. Do it yourself
There are plenty of projects that are perfect for DIY, but unless you are qualified, a kitchen remodel shouldn’t be one of them. A full remodel of your kitchen is one of the biggest, most expensive, and complicated home projects you can do. A qualified and (this is important) licensed contractor or remodeling company should always be involved.
2. Choosing the Wrong Contractor
Again, a kitchen remodel is a big, important job – don’t settle for an under qualified person to handle it. Do your due diligence, check reviews, trust your gut. Don’t necessarily choose someone because their estimate was lower. It may be much more expensive to have to redo the job if you aren’t happy with the results.
3. Using Cheap Materials
High quality cabinetry, hardware and surfaces are expensive – but they are worth it. Cheap hardware can stretch, leaving you with crooked cabinet doors and laminate cabinets can peel easily.
4. Not Being Sure of What You Want
When you approve a design and o.k. work, be sure that you are comfortable and happy with it. If you aren’t sure, check out our kitchen design style guide. Changing your mind mid (or worse) or at the end of a project can lead to costly delays or new work orders and put a huge strain on your budget.
The answer will always be: It depends. A full remodel can take anywhere between two to five months. The length is determined by how much you are changing. Whether you are simply updating cabinetry or making small aesthetic changes, that can take a couple weeks. The more complex the remodel, the longer it is going to take. You must consider the electrical installation, the appliances, plumbing locations, change in floor plan, and how long products will take to come in once they are ordered. Make sure to have a clear budget and vision of what you want out of your kitchen remodel.
More often than not, yes. This especially applies when you are changing anything with plumbing or electrical. Permit requirements vary depending where you live. Kaminskiy takes care of all the paperwork necessary to get your remodeling project moving forward so you do not have to worry about it at all.
Absolutely! A kitchen renovation improves your lifestyle greatly. It is an investment you make in your home and your quality of life. The property value of your home increases significantly, so the resale value of your home is raised. Your remodel will be attuned to how you want your kitchen to look and feel.

You have full creative liberty and control to place where you want your appliances, oven, and sink. It will be yours and it will be unique.
