San Diego Homeowners,
After all these years in remodeling, there’s something I hear from clients more often than you might expect. Once the project is finished and they’re finally living in their new space, they’ll say to me, “Sergei, I wish we had done this years ago.”
I always understand why they waited. Remodeling your home is a big decision, and life has a way of giving us plenty of reasons to put big decisions off. You tell yourself you’ll get to the kitchen next year, or you’ll finally rework the house once the kids are older. Before you know it, a few years have gone by.
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately because we’re going through a big change ourselves. After 15 years in Carmel Mountain, we’re getting ready to leave the place that has been Kaminskiy’s home for such an important part of our story. I have a lot of memories there, so I’ll admit, leaving is bittersweet. At the same time, I’m genuinely excited about the new office and selection center we’re creating in Del Mar and everything this next chapter will allow us to do for our clients.
Maybe that’s why this month’s message feels a little more personal to me. Change is rarely something you feel completely ready for. Sometimes you just have to decide that the time is right and take the first step.
And if there’s a change you’ve been imagining for your own home, maybe “someday” is closer than you think.

One of the biggest misconceptions about remodeling is that the project starts when construction begins. In reality, a successful remodel starts months earlier with thoughtful design, selections, planning, permits, and ordering all happening before the first day of construction.
So, if you’re dreaming about enjoying a new kitchen next summer, finally tackling that whole-home remodel, or creating more space for your family, the time to start the conversation may be sooner than you think. Starting early gives you more time to make thoughtful decisions, prepare for lead times, and create a realistic schedule without feeling rushed.
Wondering what that timeline actually looks like? Our Project Timelines: Kitchens, Baths, Additions & Whole Home Remodels guide breaks down the process from initial design through construction, so you can work backward from when you’d like to be enjoying your finished space.

Cool, stark interiors are giving way to homes that feel warmer, softer, and more personal. We’re seeing homeowners gravitate toward natural wood tones, creamy whites, warm stone, textured finishes, and mixed materials that add depth without making a space feel busy.
The goal isn’t to make your home look “trendy.” It’s to create rooms that feel collected, comfortable, and connected to the people who live there. Think a beautifully grained wood vanity against natural stone, warmer cabinetry paired with subtle brass details, or layers of texture that make a neutral kitchen feel anything but plain.
Our favorite approach? Choose timeless materials for the foundation of your remodel, then bring in personality through finishes, lighting, hardware, and details that can evolve with you over time.

If remodeling has been on your mind for a few weeks, or sitting on your wish list for years, you don’t need to have every detail figured out before taking the first step. In fact, many of our clients tell us afterward that their only regret was waiting so long to get started.
Kit can listen to what isn’t working in your home, answer your initial questions, and help you understand what’s possible and whether Kaminskiy is the right fit for your project.
Your remodel doesn’t have to start with all the answers. Sometimes, it simply starts with a conversation.

A Final Thought from Kimberly

This month, we’re talking about why some of the best changes begin with simply deciding it’s time. And as it turns out, we’re taking a little of our own advice. After 15 years in Carmel Mountain, we’re preparing to say goodbye to the office we’ve called home for so long. It’s where countless remodeling ideas began, selections were made, and relationships with our clients grew. And leaving it is certainly bittersweet.
But we’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead. In January, Kaminskiy will be moving to a brand-new office and selection center in Del Mar, designed to make the remodeling experience even better for our clients.
During the transition, you can find us at our temporary Miramar office:

Sometimes the hardest part of a new beginning is deciding it’s finally time. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.
