Open Concept Kitchen Remodel in Point Loma

The homeowners of this Point Loma home desired an open concept kitchen. Dark wood floors and a hood installed into the ceiling help keep the design open so that the kitchen seamlessly flows into the dining room and beyond.

The dark wood tones found in the floor and island add contrast to the bright white cabinets and gray and white backsplash on the kitchen’s far wall. Silver appliances, including the hood and a dark gray, polished countertop help bridge the gap between these two opposing tones. The overall effect diffuses the light so the lighting in the kitchen remains soft, and works as the perfect place for entertaining guests.

A simple, shaker-style cabinet keeps the focus on the darker island, with its rich, deep brown color. This design also keeps the focus on the backsplash rather than the cabinets themselves.

The space is extended into the dining room, which features a table set perpendicularly to the kitchen, creating a sense of expansion without making any feature too linear or crowded. A silver lighting feature adds a touch of the modern simplicity reflected in the cabinets’ hardware.
